Vallecitos Lake

Woke up fairly early this morning. The nature here is amazing. There are all kinds of wildlife around, and the lake can be seen right off the back deck. It is truly beautiful here. We all sat out on the back deck for awhile drinking coffee and visiting. The canned biscuits that we brought with us had popped open in the ice chest on the way in last night, so Elena and I were up first to make breakfast. We (mostly Elena :) ) made sausage and eggs, with biscuits and gravy. Nobody had brought any milk so we had to use half and half that Elena's Mom Alice had brought for the coffee. Still tasted good, but anything tastes good after not eating anything the night before...

After breakfast, Elena and her brother-in-law (Tim) decided to take a hike up the mountain. Everyone else stayed behind, still tired from breakfast. (Plus the Price is Right was on...) They took the dogs with them, and saw a baby deer just a little bigger than Boscoe. Sadie tried to attack it, so they had to keep walking.

Later in the afternoon we went down to the lake to try our hand at trout fishing. Didn't catch anything but Boscoe got a good swim in. Unlike his big sister Sadie, he jumped right in a swam back to shore. Although, depending on who you ask, Elena supposedly threw him in. I spent most of the time repairing Elena and Alice's fishing tackle. They kept getting it stuck on rocks and branches.

The dogs were exhausted after a full day running around at the lake. When we got back to the cabin, they fell right asleep.
